Continuity of care
The staff of Wellborn are licensed with the state of South Carolina, trained in Neonatal Resuscitation, and keep up many yearly hours of continuing education. As “experts in normal,” midwives are able to recognize when there is a need to consult with advanced medical care for a resolution, or apply our own extensive training to help correct a situation. Being experts in normal also means having great confidence in a woman’s innate ability to give birth, and walking with her confidently through her childbearing journey. We work with the physiological processes by helping moms know how to get baby into the best position for birth, offering natural comfort measures for labor and delivery, and encouraging a mother’s instincts. We strive to purposefully, prayerfully, thoughtfully help our clients on their path to motherhood. While we cannot guarantee a birth outside of the hospital, each client should know that she was cared for and attended with the best love and attention possible.
In particular, Wellborn focuses on continuity of care, a unique approach to each woman’s needs, and a partnership that goes beyond basic pregnancy and postpartum care. Our statistics show reasonable transport rates, reduced c-sections and other birth traumas, and reduced need for pharmacological interventions. It is important to us to maintain healthy relationships with the medical community, making your collaborative pregnancy experience as seamless and safe as possible.
The importance of family
We want each of our families to know how important they are. While it may sometimes seem that everything is about the baby, the truth is babies make families happen from the moment the pregnancy test is positive! With a baby comes a swirl of new information, sometimes overwhelming in its magnitude, but always exciting. We are here to help you navigate this journey.
It’s so important for fathers to feel empowered as they learn how to support their partners, change a diaper, and make informed decisions for baby’s care. We seek to include the new dad as much as he desires, by giving a safe space for men to learn, process, ask questions, and grow...all while having fun and enjoying the ride!
Older children...what an amazing time for them to learn what out-of-hospital care is like, to see their mom interacting with the midwife, and knowing this type of care to be a normal thing. We welcome children at prenatal and postpartum visits, and even at your birth, if you desire to include them.
It’s very special to have grandparents attend occasional prenatal visits, hearing the heartbeat, offering their anecdotes and birth stories, expertise, and unwavering support. This truly is a whole family affair, and we welcome each member of yours!
In it together
They say it “takes a village” to raise a child. While we might not be the village that helps you completely raise that little one, we will be the village that helps you prepare for pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, baby wearing, postpartum recovery, and any other needs you have. We want you to feel a sense of community at Wellborn, whether directly from us or from those we bring alongside you. It’s important that you feel heard, supported, loved, and equipped as parents and families.
